Second Saturdays are one of the regular opportunities for guild members to meet, share their work, and socialize. We meet in the Community Room at the Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada City, on the second Saturday of the month, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to join our fiber circle. (No gathering in August as we are at the Nevada County Fair.)
We had a free Learn to Crochet class as part of our Second Saturday activities in May. Simona led the group with Julie and Mary as support. Our goal is to learn the skills needed to crochet a cotton face cloth using a pattern designed by Simona.
We first all learned how to make a proper slip knot. Do you know how? It is a very important first step to keep your beginning edge neat and tidy. Then we learned how chain, single crochet, and crochet a nice foundation row. Everyone was so engaged that those that came to spin and do other handwork joined the group! There will be a follow-up class in two weeks. We all left with homework and a desire to learn more about crochet.
