Programs and General Meetings 2025-2026

September 23:  New Guild Year Overview and Super Summer Show & Tell.

September marks the beginning of regular guild meetings after the summer break for Nevada County Fair events. Join us in person for a peek at upcoming events, approval of the budget, the introduction of this year’s guild theme, and the selection of this year’s guild challenge. Guild member Kate Grant will share about her recent visit to Iceland. She will provide some interesting facts about the country and will describe and show examples of traditional Icelandic yarn as well as present pictures of a variety of fiber art pieces. We will have show & tell and may even have a door prize drawing!

October 28:  Halloween Party and Costume Contest

NOTE:  LATE START due to library conflict. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. and we will get the party started ASAP. This is an in-person meeting only. No ZOOM option.

Bring some spooky snacks or dastardly desserts to share for a potluck. BYOB (non-alcoholic only, it’s library rules).

Fibers Costume contest: Dress up in a costume featuring something you made from yarn, or dress up as a skein of yarn! Wear anything fiber arts themed - let’s see your creativity (or maybe your skills with the mighty pun?)

Jack o’ Yarn decorating contest: Lanterns are so old fashioned; why not use yarn instead? Bring a pumpkin that you decorated with yarn or felt or other fibery goodness.

As always, guests are welcome to attend one meeting free of charge prior to joining the guild.

November 25:  Make It & Take It - Wrapped "Zen" Rocks with Victoria James

This is an in-person meeting only. No ZOOM option.

Victoria will show us how to weave on small rocks. This is a great project to use up small bits of interesting materials.

  • Rocks, about palm sized, flat-ish ones work best.
  • Material to weave with. Medium cane, reed, waxed linen, cordage, leather cord or lacing, anything else that you want to try. Materials 1mm to 3mm in diameter are about the right size.
  • Scissors
  • Small awl for punching holes
  • Basketry tools, if you have them

Kits will be available for $5. (Please bring exact cash if possible.)

January 27:  Blending Boards with Roy Clemes

This is an in-person & Zoom meeting, weather permitting. Roy will be joining us via Zoom.

Learn how to use a Blending Board from one of its original designers! In 2011, Roy and his father Henry created a new tool that became the wildly popular Blending Board. This demonstration will show the versatility of the blending board - blending fibers of various types, lengths, and colors - but also the strength of the blending board - quickly preparing fiber as rolags for woolen spinning.  Wool, mohair, alpaca, cotton, feathers, dog hair, shredded silk fabric, cut yarn, odds and ends from other projects – your imagination is the only limiting factor.

Bio: Roy Clemes is half of the father-son team who own Clemes & Clemes, a fiber arts equipment manufacturer from Pinole California that specialize in drum carders, spinning wheels, and of course, blending boards.

February 24:  Texture in Crochet with Megan Lapp

In her presentation, Megan Lapp will take us through the evolution of how she came to design crochet patterns and her experience in the arts and fiber art space.  She'll also give an indepth look at the crochet pattern designing process.  Following the presentation, Megan will do her best to answer any questions anyone might have about her work, her experience, her process, and anything crochet-related that you'd like to know more about.

Bio: Megan Lapp is a crochet pattern designer, creator of "Crafty Intentions" and author of four books, she's been publishing patterns since 2017, crocheting since 2010, and is shocked and delighted every day that this gets to be her "work".  She also runs a 40 thousand member Facebook Group, a discord server, and a subreddit to help support other people as they work on her patterns. She is working on several large upcoming projects, including new books, and is excited for more crochet magic to come!

March 24:   Texture in Yarn with Kristen Truesdail

Kristen Truesdail, a freestyle weaver, uses a diverse range of textures available to fiber artists to create her designs. The artist behind Art Fiber Frenzy, she curates various yarns into project kits for weavers, and these same fibers are transformed into ready-to-use full skeins for knitters and crocheters. You’ll find multiple examples of multi-textured projects to inspire you to create your own.

Kristen will share her journey, from learning to weave to offering her own kits and skeins to others in just a few short years.

Join us for an exciting experiment with yarn mixing, where you can bring your mini looms, needles, hooks and scissors. Kristen will generously provide an abundance of yarns for you to explore and create your own unique designs. We’ll also have an opportunity to start a small project using water-soluble papers and yarns.
